Something like the internet but with the lag time it would have to be done a bit differently. They could download movies and such, they could send and receive emails with loved ones back on Earth. It wouldn’t have to be all that boring and lonely.

Recently the ESA (European Space Agency) started a recruiting effort for roughly 6 more astronauts. During one of the presentations, they mentioned their goal of first sending people back to the moon, before focusing on Mars. The reason was to study what effects a prolonged stay in space has on human beings.
